Custom Fixed Gear Bicycles by Mission Bicycle in San Francisco

The staff here at Mission Bicycle will craft you the bicycle of your dreams! Full customization! Their bread and butter is fixed gears, but now they offer all the way up to an 8 speed internal geared hub. The options are endless!

They offer parts from proven manufacturers to upgrade your bicycle in any way you want. They carry Brooks Saddles, Vittoria Rubino tires, Thomson Elite stems, Chris King headsets, and Sugino cranksets to name a few. Also, their shop has a plethora of accessories to go on or with your bike. Tire pumps, patches, stickers, locks, clothing, etc.

The staff here is very helpful. I purchased a fixed gear from them in 2008, and throughout the process of them constructing my bicycle, they kept me in the know about everything that was going on. Their mission statement is:

To those cycling our streets: We salute you. You are the vanguard, reinventing how we commute through American cities. You inspired us to start this company.

Mission Bicycles are made of steel, weigh less than twenty pounds, and are built to last a lifetime. Each one is custom built, part by part, in San Francisco, California.

We will build you the bicycle of your dreams.

Signed,
Mission Bicycle Company

Go to their website or storefront and mess around with the customization process. Once you do, I guarantee that you will purchase one soon after!

The Brooklyn Circus: Taking Men’s Fashion to the Previous Level

Founder of BKc, Ouigi Theodore, has created something fantastic in the fashion industry! He has gone forward with fashion by looking back at it. This retro-sexual brand has taken influence from classic designing techniques and pushed them full force into the world we live in today.

BKc makes shirts, jackets, cardigans, pants, hats, and accessories. Everything you need in your arsenal to look fresh. These pieces of clothing are made here on the wonderful shores of the United States of America. A true American brand! The Brooklyn Circus has flagship storefronts in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

One thing that I think this brand does well is the meshing of classic clothing with technology. It’s 2011 folks, and if you’re a small business, you absolutely need to fully utilize the technology at hand! BKc has an online shop and they are also using social media to it’s fullest potential. Keep it up fellas!

Ladies Handmade Jewelry by AVGVSTA & AVGVSTVS

This one is for all the classy ladies out there! This new company AVGVSTA & AVGVSTVS (pronounced Augusta and Augustus) is ran by two creative minded sisters named Julia and Samantha Vaughn. The Vaughn sisters have traveled to many places over seas, but now their home base is Southern California.

These pieces of wearable art go far beyond gorgeous! If you’re a lady looking to make a statement and a lasting impression, you will be able to do it with any piece from their collection. The AVGVSTA & AVGVSTVS shop just recently launched and at the moment they are offering eight necklaces ranging from $325 to $525.

The inspiration for their jewelry collection comes from their experiences over seas and also Julia’s husbands passion for restoring classic motorcycles (check the video down below). When describing what AVGVSTA & AVGVSTVS is all about they said it best by stating, “With a mixture of past and present, destruction and creation, imagination and the dull reality, Avgvsta & Avgvstvs is a brand to awaken your long lost childhood royalty.”

Don’t sleep!

Doonan’s Barbershop

This barbershop is owned by some dear friends of mine. We’ve all known each other since we were causing trouble in junior high. It’s owned by the Doonan family: Tony, Brian, and Chad. The master barbers are Brian, Eric, and Grant (who has been cleaning me up for a long time). Chad is an up and coming apprentice barber.

The environment is so laid back! They have a large LCD TV in the lobby with super comfortable seating and all the refreshments you need, water, coffee, and a keg full of beer (free with the cut). They also have TVs at every chair.

A normal cut is $15 for and adult, $10 for seniors, and $13 for kids. If you don’t need a full cut, you can just go for a line-up which costs $5. They also offer a straight razor shave for $15. If you want to go for the whole head, you can get a cut and shave for $28. Oh, also for military, police officers, and firefighters it’s $13 per head.

So, go by and hang with the fellas while getting cleaned up. I’ll be there. See you at the shop!

Guy Fieri’s Johnny Garlic’s

I’m pumped about this post! I’m trying to return the favor to Guy Fieri. For those of you who don’t know, he is the host of Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. In the show Guy travels the U.S. to find the best mom and pop restaurants. Well, many people don’t know that Guy is from my neighborhood, Northern California. His restaurant Johnny Garlic’s started in Santa Rosa and Windsor. He just recently expanded to Roseville.

I’ve been going to this place for years! Everything at Johnny Garlic’s is to die for. First of all, they give every table fresh warm foccacia bread and a side of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I could seriously just eat the bread and be satisfied! For entrees, they offer salads, burgers, multiple cuts of meat, and pastas. My personal favorite is the chipotle shrimp and hotlinks pasta.

A unique thing that they offer is a daily special called “The Hunter’s Creation.” This changes everyday and includes rare types of game. Elk, alligator, quail, boar, ostrich, etc. If you like to live on the edge, this is the special for you. Might as well have a great restaurant cook something unique for you if you don’t leave your comfort zone too often! Oh, and one thing you need to remember about this place is that you have to save room for dessert!

Also, the service is always phenomenal. Great food, great service, just the kind of place that I love! If you’re ever in Northern California, make sure you stop by Johnny Garlic’s. It’s only in California, so take advantage of it if you’re passing through.

The Beauty of Small Business

Small businesses are not only creative and fun, but also very vital to the economy. Small business makes up more than half of all private sector employees in the United states. Today, when large corporations go out of business, many people lose their jobs. Borders, Books, and Music is a relevant example. How do we plan on filling these job voids? Well, a business created equals jobs created. The U.S. Small Business Administration states that small businesses have “generated 65 percent of net new jobs over the past 17 years.” That’s amazing to me! Small business is definitely going to continue to grow in the future.

Although small businesses do not always survive (just like large corporations), they are still a great way to go. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, “seven out of 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years, and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more.” People just have to be different and better than the rest of their competition. Capitalism at its finest!

Tomorrow will be my first post on an actual business. It is one of my favorite places to spend time and money at, so I can’t wait to share it with you! The place goes by the name of Heritage Footwear and Apparel. Lucky for me, they are having one of their semi-annual sales tomorrow!

Until next time folks!
